Lock-down Spinning

Lock-down Spinning

For most of us lock-down was (and in some parts) still is a living nightmare. However there is one group I can think of that felt like they won all the lottery’s in one, and that’ll be us, the vinyl junkies of the world.

The hard lock-down here in South Africa meant that for a solid 5+ weeks, we were simply forced to stay home. You could literally only leave your home for absolute essentials, not even walking the dog. Nightmare! I hear you say... well actually, it’s a bit of a dream for us vinyl junkies.

We now had all the time in the world to play play play our vinyl rekkids. We also had time to sort our collections, clean them and put new sleeve protectors on. The amount of times I’ve moaned to my fellow rekkid junkies that there simply isn’t enough time to play rekkids... well now we had time, all the time.

The week leading up to lock-down I was on mission critical to ensure I had all the gear I needed at my house, plus some spares too. I’m talking mixer, RCA cables and even a spare head shell you know, just in case.

It was a marvelous time indeed. I played some gems from my collection that I hadn’t done in years and just slipped right back into that comfy space reminding me why I do love vinyl so much. Now that we’re back to the new normal of going to the office and about our daily lives, I miss those self-indulgent sessions the most.

I did a quick survey with the Rekkids crew to ask what album made its way to the turntable consistently in lock-down and here’s what they said.

Sierd: The War on Drugs with Lost In The Dream

Matt: The bells - Jeff Mills

Damo: Boogie Belgique - Time For A Boogie

Liz: Soul of a Nation 2 Jazz is the Teacher, Funk is the Preacher
